Who are we?
Numenon is a progressive Metal Band from Frankfurt. We do have some distinct Powermetal influences as well. So there are no 20-minute solos. We exclusively play original music, no covers. Our songs are catchy but sophisticated. Fat riffs, elaborate melodies, lyrics with meaningful content, empathic singing and powerful rhythms packed into well-thought-out arrangements – that is Numenon.
But judge for yourself and listen to a few of our songs.
For everyone who might have asked themselves what kind of name this is for a band, here is the explanation:
In philosophy, a noumenon is a posited object or an event that exists independently of human sense and/or perception. The term noumenon is generally used in contrast with, or in relation to, the term phenomenon, which refers to any object of the senses. Immanuel Kant first developed the notion of the noumenon as part of his transcendental idealism, suggesting that while we know the noumenal world to exist because human sensibility is merely receptive, it is not itself sensible and must therefore remain otherwise unknowable to us. In Kantian philosophy, the noumenon is often associated with the unknowable “thing-in-itself” (German: Ding an sich). However, the nature of the relationship between the two is not made explicit in Kant’s work, and remains a subject of debate among Kant scholars as a result.
One could say: a Noumenon is a “thing in itsself”, so to say “a thing that exists as a distinct unit”.
Finally we decided to streamline the word a bit and to dispense with the first “o”.
